Martha is the Director of Liberty, the human rights and civil liberties campaigning organisation. Prior to taking over at Liberty in 2016, Martha was a barrister at Doughty Street Chambers, where she specialised in defending access to justice, bringing claims against the police, prisons and immigration authorities, and protecting the rights of women, children and disabled people.Martha is an Associate Tenant at Doughty Street Chambers, a Visiting Professor at Goldsmiths University and a Trustee of the Museum of Homelessness. She has published widely on human rights law and policy and was previously a lawyer at the mental health charity, Mind, and at the Public Law Project.
